Do you know that the pilgrims virtually starved after they arrived at Plymouth Rock? That is as a result of they have been compelled to farm “collectively.” The company that funded the expedition mentioned, “grow food together. Divide the harvest equally.”

It is a horrible concept. It creates what economists name the “tragedy of the commons.” Whenever you share property and the outcomes of your work, folks farm till the land is barren, do not work as exhausting, or steal meals from others.

John Stossel gathers younger folks from College students For Liberty and runs an experiment to exhibit this “tragedy of the commons.” It reveals the answer is non-public property, which is what saved the pilgrims.

Governor William Bradford lastly determined to “assign each family a parcel of land”. As soon as the pilgrims had property rights, they grew to become far more productive and introduced in enormous harvests — which they have been then capable of share with the Indians.

So this Thanksgiving feast, remember to say “thanks, private property!”
